AMAZING SEASON ENDS ON HIGH NOTE
The 2008 salmon fishing season in Iceland was quite amazing. Again we had the midsummer draughts, however the salmon runs were so huge that they started to enter the rivers earlier than is usuall. Which meant that the salmon did not congregate as much in the eastuaries or inflows into glacial rivers and were running strong all season long. We had a memorable reckord season in Iceland, all the statistics are not in yet but is was already a record before September even got started!

Salmon season off with a bang - last minute offers!
Our salmon rivers are late starters and do not open until Tuesday, July 1rst. However, some ther rivers have been starting recently in June and despite receding water levels, the runs have been terrific. The best early season runs for years. And there is also a marked increase in the numbers of mws salmon in most of the rivers.

As cold a start as they come!
Angling officially started in Iceland on April the 1rst. A few sea trout rivers allow a catch and release policy for retreating sea trout and some lakes and rivers with stationary brown trout and char are opened as well. But this spring has been very, very cold by the last several years standards and the fishing accordingly difficult, although anglers have actually been taking fish. They have though had to count their fingers at the days end!
