UP AND DOWN SPRING FISHING - WE STILL HAVE AVAILABILITIES FOR THE SEASON

3.March 2009

Hello clients, friends and other guests on our website!

The spring fishing here in Iceland has been up and down due to spring entering disguised as winter at the start of April! The statement is more fact than funny as especially Minni has been affected by frequent frosty weather, frequent high northern winds and even occasional snow and sleet while the rivers closer to the shore have been hammered by belting rain. But when the conditions have allowed, anglers have been fast out of the blocks and made some superb catches.

Only two of our rivers open up in April, Minni has been, as stated, up and down, but when the weather conditions have been favorable the fishing has zipped up and one group actually had considerably warm weather and some hatches. They were our best group to date, landing 26 , up to 10 pounds, and hooking and loosing many more. Suddenly the river which had looked distinctly devoid of life, came to life in a big way. It was of course full of fish after all! The home pool, Húsabreida, actually seemed to boil at times due to the feeding frenzy going on below the surface.

Our official first day of summer checked in last Thursday and summer and winter "froze together". Which means that the tempertures in some places in Iceland were sub zero that day. An old saying says that when winter and summer freeze together, the summers turn out outstanding! So there you go.
We take it they mean the fishing as well.

Photos from "Minni" this spring, despite difficult conditions some nice fish have been caught.

Also we have several groups fishing the outstanding Tungulaekur.
The river has been up to its usual outstanding standards as it is rarely affected by bad weather. Our last group, fishing two rods over three days landed between 30-40 fish.

The outlook for the looming salmon season is very good. The fisheries scientists have predicted a good season and the snow fields in the interior are holding well up due to our cold spring. Our rivers are late starters by Icelandic standards, all of them opening on the 1rst of July. Due to the faltering economy in Iceland, several local clients have opted not to purchase their days, thus offering foreign guests a rare crack at staking their claims in top class Icelandic salmon rivers, better priced than for many a year due to the currency climate. We have added many new foreign clients over the past weeks and as we still have some availabilities, we would welcome even more. So please feel free to contact us for more info. We still have plenty of time to put together your dream fishing trip to one of the very best locations on Earth.
