IT’S FINALLY OVER, the volcano has finally subsided. Obviously people who are travelling to fish have been jumpy about what might have happened to their trip this summer if there was continued disruption to flights. It looks as though we may be safe so will keep fingers crossed that the eruption activity is over for the summer.
Domestic travel hasn't been affected with flights between Reykjavik and Egilsstadir operating as normal. International flights where mostly fine, but if needed reserve aiports up north in Akureyri and Egillstaðir where used so it was always possible to fly to Iceland and back despite the eruption.
Because of cancellations there are some rods available at the Breiðdalsá on the east coast. July is a greatly improving month on the river and the time when some lovely 2SW salmon are caught. Towards the end of the month the grilse are beginning to make an appearance to swell the daily catches. Rods are available from 23 July to 1 August. It’s the perfect time to visit the river, when fresh fish are running on each tide, the weather is often kind, and we have the long northern nights. Despite our trout river Minnivallalækur was closed to the volcano it did not affect the fishing which has been good this spring for the famous trophy brown trout in this river. |
