Good conditions and big fish!

BreiddalsaOn 11 July we had the first decent conditions on Breiddalsa since the early season flood, and the day produced 17 fish. Richard Arnold, a regular visitor from England, hit the headlines when he caught a lovely 12.5kg male fish in Skammadalsbreida. The fish was very strong and took 40 minutes to subdue on a 16-foot rod! The fish had been in for a few days, he wasn’t carrying any lice, but was mint fresh and in excellent condition (106 cm long with a 50 cm girth).

Season Start at Strengir

BreiddalsaOur rivers opened on 1 July, and like most of the rivers in Iceland there were salmon waiting for us in encouraging numbers.

I’ve just returned from the Hrutafjardara where we had good water levels and great fishing. The first week produced 25 fish, followed by 8 on Monday. Fish are running early and of those caught so far 1 in 3 has been between 14lb and 18lb.

Season underway and things are looking good!

It has been a great start to the salmon season in Iceland, although Strengir rivers are yet to commence fishing, and we’ve caught some huge brown trout in the Minnivallalaekur.

More salmon have been caught in June on those rivers that are open than for the past 20-years. There appears to be good numbers of fish already in most of the other rivers that will be opening their seasons between now and 1 July.

Volcano and opening in Breiðdalsa end July!

IT’S FINALLY OVER, the volcano has finally subsided. Obviously people who are travelling to fish have been jumpy about what might have happened to their trip this summer if there was continued disruption to flights. It looks as though we may be safe so will keep fingers crossed that the eruption activity is over for the summer.

Dear clients and others

Thank you for your concern via numerous e-meils and text messages due to the erupting volcano on the south coast of Iceland. It is an unfortunate occurance, alas one we have no control over and we up here sincerely hope that flights to and from Europe will be back in order as soon as possible and that the volcano will duly shut up and its annoying ash cloud disperse.

Frosty start close to the volcano

MinnivalllækurWe had a pretty frozen start to the season of 2010. Early March was very promising, it really looked as if spring had come early, but no, we seem to to need remembering that we live in Iceland and not someplace far further south!

Worlds best sea-trout fishing at your doorstep?

You might think that you need to go to South America for world class sea trout fishing. Nothing could be further from the truth, as it is in truth right at your doorstep, so to speak. You need go no further than to Iceland, where the sea trout are  numerous, big and last but not least, native, not implanted as in Argentina.

Strengir Season Review

Breiddalsa
The season finished with a total of 782 salmon and grilse, compared to 910 in 2008. We were hoping to make 1,000 fish this season and I think the lower than expected total was due to fewer grilse this year and a smaller autumn run, which was hampered by very low water throughout September - the lowest levels then seen since 1998. September usually produces as many, or more, fish as August.....

Hello fellow anglers

As the 2009 season draws to a close in Iceland we are already reflecting and have found that we are deeply satisfied with the performances of our main rivers. The season will not be a record season as last year but we are well over the average which means basically that the rivers were full of salmon. Long draughts meant low water levels during a critical time of the season, however our rivers are not in the areas that were worst hit

A lively start to the season and straight away a lot of big fish drama!

We are pleased with the start of the season on most fronts and as a whole the salmon season in Iceland has had a lively start with salmon turning up early on many rivers. In some places there are reasonable numbers of mws‘s and the grilse runs have been strong over the past week or two. Many rivers are reaching their climax these days while others, among them all of our salmon rivers, are later starters and hold up better deep into the season.

UP AND DOWN SPRING FISHING - WE STILL HAVE AVAILABILITIES FOR THE SEASON

Hello clients, friends and other guests on our website!

The spring fishing here in Iceland has been up and down due to spring entering disguised as winter at the start of April! The statement is more fact than funny as especially Minni has been affected by frequent frosty weather, frequent high northern winds and even occasional snow and sleet while the rivers closer to the shore have been hammered by belting rain.

A thrilling unique mix on offer!

We are only a few weeks away from the new season. We start on April the first on Minnivallalækur and the biggest news item for now is probably our many added availabilities on Tungulækur, which is probably the worlds best sea trout river. We have aquired several availabilities on the river during both the spring and late season fishing. During both periods, a unique mix of fishing Tungulækur and Minnivallalækur on the same trip is now a possibility. Anglers would be sampling the very highest standards in brown trout fishing with a great chance of catching monster sized trout on both rivers.
