Season underway and things are looking good!

24. June 2010

It has been a great start to the salmon season in Iceland, although Strengir rivers are yet to commence fishing, and we’ve caught some huge brown trout in the Minnivallalaekur.

More salmon have been caught in June on those rivers that are open than for the past 20-years. There appears to be good numbers of fish already in most of the other rivers that will be opening their seasons between now and 1 July. Char anglers on Hrutafjardara have been seeing fresh salmon running into the river, and the same reports have been coming from the Brieddalsa. There are no reports from the Jokla as yet, but that will change soon as we go to prepare the camp.

Everything looks set for an exciting start to the 2010 season.

There are still a couple of rods remaining in late July and early August on Breiddalsa, which is a very good time of the season. Please get in touch if you’d like to join us. And please remember that the volcano is peaceful again and we don’t expect any further travel disruptions this summer.

Dag Grepperud from Norway with his big fish last Friday caught on a tiny midge!

The Minni. has produced more trophy trout than usual this year with over a dozen 10 lb+ fish landed (and released). A successful Norwegian group landed a 16.5 lb fish on their last day, leaving them with very fond memories of this wonderful little river. The fish was caught on a size 20 Black Midge.

There are vacant rods on the Minni. from late August through September. This is an ideal opportunity to combine fishing here with a visit to the Tungulaekur for sea-trout.

Hoping you can come and join us this season,

Yours sincerely,
